So I've been working on a new project for the past couple weeks. I don't know what sparked it, but basically I wanted to create an original web series that would be funny to watch, but also let me broaden my wings a little as a filmmaker. So this new project will be a sort of experiment to see what I'm capable of, both as a writer, and a director.
The project is called "Nick gets Sick", and will be a multi episode series (depending on how well the first episode goes) chronicling what happens when I get sick. I'm not 100% on what the format will be like, but it will probably just end up being a narrative piece that I film by myself (like most of my other videos) with a couple twists thrown in. I am currently writing the first episode, which should only be a few minutes long when filmed and edited, and I think it's going to be pretty good.
I've created a poster image for the show, which is below. Click on it for the full image. It's not much, but it sets the mood. I guess I'll probably make some more artwork once production is underway. Stay tuned for updates, and if you have any ideas or want to be part of the production, let me know!
The Final Frontier

So as most of my friends know (and most of my work mates just recently found out), I am a Trekkie. I'm somewhere in between a casual fan, and those freaks that dress up and go to conventions. But to make a long story short, I am a major fan of the Star Trek universe, and Gene Roddenberry's vision of a hopeful future.
Coupled with my creative ability to create artwork utilizing photoshop software, my loving of Star Trek inspired me to make a poster for the upcoming sequel to J.J. Abrams' 2009 revamping of the Star Trek world, which is to be released in May of 2013. So here's a teaser poster which I created for 2013's untitled Star Trek film. Click on the picture below for a full shot of the poster. Of course, comments and criticisms are welcome.
What the evening brings...

Several months ago, I created a short video called "Morning Routine" in which you see me wake up and do some things around my apartment. The next logical step, of course, would be to create a companion piece for the video, which is exactly what I have done. Yesterday, I filmed and edited another video called "Evening Routine". The video is now up on youtube, so check it out and let me know what you think. It is embedded below. Bottom's up!
Jason Segel is overrated
29 Nov 2011 by Nick | 22:00 PST
This is my first entry for... a long time, but I want to try to keep this website updated. Starting this new trend, I want to explain why I don't like Jason Segel. Let me be clear: He seems like a decent enough guy, but I just can't stand to watch him. He almost ruined the Muppets for me, but if it weren't for him, there would be no new Muppet movie. So I'll take the good with the bad.
So why don't I like him? First of all, there may be a little bitterness lying dormant within me. He was in film and television by the time he was 18. I am 26 (27 in about 2 months) and am still not famous. So it seems like fame came a litte too easy for him.
My jealousy not withstanding, let's look at what he's done. His pal, Judd Apatow casts him in movies. No worries there, I would do the same with my friends. Then he writes Forgetting Sarah Marshall (a good movie) in 2008. He writes himself into the lead role, and (knowing he's going to play this character) writes in 2 nude scenes for himself. Fully frontal nude scenes. A bit egotistical in my humble opinion.
Then, once again, he writes The Muppets. A great movie. And again, he writes himself into the lead role. Now, despite the fact that I think he's full of himself, and taking advantage of his own fame, why don't I like him? It's simple: I don't think he's funny. He doesn't have a comedic background, in which I meant he was never a stand up comedian or anything like that. He hasn't earned his place in Hollywood. His roles in "I Love You, Man" and "Knocked Up" and "Gulliver's Travels" were in no way breakthrough or funny roles. So his successful rise to stardom is undeserved, in my opinion. Maybe he should stay behind the screen if his writing talents are good, but my prejudice for him won't really let me see that. Maybe he should put his ego aside for a while and do what he's good at. Or maybe I'm just a bitter hack who can't make it in his world. Yeah, probably that last one. Good day.
